11 Months

I am really behind on this post. The days are just flying by and my little baby is almost 1!! It makes my heart hurt just realizing that this is the last month of her just being a baby baby. At the same time, it's really exciting to see how she is developing. She understands so much more now and she is talking non-stop (she probably got that from me). Most of what she says is gibberish but instead of being a repeat of the same syllable it is a mixture. I swear she said "call daddy" this morning and "doggie" at a friend's house.

She isn't quite walking yet. ..still lots of cruising. She took about 15 steps or so yesterday but I was right in front of her prompting her to take the next one. She hasn't walked much on her own.

Avelyn is one mischievous little girl. She does just about everything she knows she is not allowed to do. For example, she will crawl over to the air freshener that is plugged in and act like she is going to touch it. I will look at her and she starts shaking her head "no" because she KNOWS she isn't allowed to play with that. If I get there too late and she is already playing with it, she will hurry and try to plug it back in the wall before I get there.

She also gets her feelings hurt when she is in trouble. She has been biting me sometimes when she nurses. She used to think it was funny when I said OW so I started saying "NO MAAM" very sternly. Well it breaks her heart and she starts crying and then I feel horrible. Early discipline is a difficult thing to navigate.

Sometimes I will do a time-out if she persists in doing what is isn't supposed to. We don't actually sit in time out but I pick her up and tell her "You're getting a time out because you didn't listen to mommy" and then i place her in a corner of the room. She usually crawls right back to do what she isn't supposed to but after the second or third time she stops doing it and moves on to something else. I have no idea if it's too early to start doing this but I know have to do something when she is disobeying. So far this is working.

The potty training has good days and bad days. She hasn't used her potty for the past couple days and she has done these strikes a few times. I don't mind. She knows what it is she is SUPPOSED to do on the potty and that's what counts.

She has started to wean herself. She now only nurses when she wakes up and when she goes to bed. The rest of the time she drinks her hempmilk out of her sippy cup. I still offer the boob but she prefers her milk. She also nurses at midnight every night. I wish she would sleep through but it just isn't happening for us. When Brandon is home, he goes up there instead of me and she will stop waking up. But if I go, I have to nurse her or she will throw a big fit. Since, that is the only time she wakes up before 7:30 I can work with it.

I had fun taking her pictures in the chair this month. She learned how to rock herself in it and was laughing the whole time so thats why they are blurry.

That's all I got for now (although I know I am forgetting alot)!

10 Months

I am exactly one week late in getting this post up on the blog. The days just get busier and busier so let's just dive right in.

At 10 months...

...Avelyn still doesn't sleep through the night. We had a good stretch (6 days in a row) but as soon as her daddy went back to his ship that ended. I have tried everything and in the end I think she is just hungry. She nurses both sides each time she gets up. On a good night she will wake up twice and a rougher night will be four or five times. I bought some formula today and I am going to try to supplement her bedtime feed. I plan to nurse as usual but when she is done I will offer her the bottle and see if that helps. I have recently started pumping at night and I only get 3 oz per pumping session. That is leading me to believe I am not making enough milk. It can't hurt to try and I will update after a week or so.

...She is babbling more and more. She makes new sounds every day. So far, the only things I know she says is Mama, Dada and Yeah. She understands so much more. She knows when I tell her No and she has started shaking her head when I say that...which makes it very hard to not laugh! I try to talk to her about everything we are doing and explain what it's all about.

...Potty training is going really well. She goes peepee in there 3-4 times a day. I offer the potty after every nap, before bath, and once mid-morning. I should really offer it more but I am just taking things slow. I tell her we are going peepee in the potty and put her on her seat. She swings her little legs and smiles at me. The trick to getting her to start going was for me to do it with her. I sat on the real toilet and peed (or pretended to) and when she saw that was when she started peeing. Now I don't have to do it. She hasn't gone #2 in there yet because it seems to happen at different times each day and I don't want to interrupt her after it has started.

...She is not walking yet but she is very close. She is still cruising on furniture and now she stands up for quite a while before falling. I have a feeling she will be a walker by the end of the month. I am in no rush but I am excited about it because I feel like she will have so much more to do once that happens.

...She Facetimed her bestie, Nandini yesterday and it was the cutest thing. We play with them 5-6 days a week either at Storytime, the mall, or our houses so they have gotten used to each other. Nandini is one week younger than Avelyn but you would never know that because she is much bigger and her hair is long. It is so cute to see little baby friendships and to watch them learn to share toys.

...Her solids are progressing very slowly. She eats an egg with cheese melted in it for breakfast and about 1/2 makes it in her mouth. She has graham crackers at the Y while I work out, a peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and a puree for dinner. The only puree she will is the Happy Baby Chick-Chick. I still offer her whatever I am eating for dinner and she tries it but she isn't really good at chewing yet.

...She still only has those 2 little teeth on the bottom! C'mon teeth!

...She is Miss Socialbutterfly. She gets really cranky if we are in the house too long and she LOVES Storytime, playdates, and the Y. It's great to get out of the house!

...She is down to only 1 nap per day. I was really fighting this for a while. I wanted her to nap in the afternoon because it gave me a break to get things done and also because I felt she needed the sleep. After putting her crib she would just play for about thirty minutes and then start yelling for me. If I didn't come that would progress to crying and after about a week of no sleeping in that time, I gave up. She hasn't seemed to miss it at all. Her morning nap is 1.5-2 hours long and I wouldn't mind if it was longer.

...She is very vocal about getting what she wants now! She will see me playing on my iPad and come over for it. If I don't give it to her, she will pinch me until I say, "OW!, No!" and then smile and do it again. Oh boy...I am in trouble.

...She loves to dance! Any time she hears music (and sometimes even when she doesn't) she starts bouncing up and down on her butt. She scoots backwards when she does it too. It is the cutest thing!!

Taking these pictures were SO HARD! I managed to get a few that weren't blurry so enjoy the cuteness!

Happy Halloween from Avelyn and I! This was Avelyn's first "real" holiday and even though B is gone, I wanted to do it right!

After scanning Pinterest and Etsy for halloween costume ideas I decided I wanted Avelyn to be Raggedy Ann. After all this is the first and last halloween I will get to decide what she wears. The costume I found on Etsy was around $80 so I went to Kid-to-Kid the day they unveiled their costumes and found this for $17! What a steal right?!

We started off our day at Storytime with Miss Jane. We love Storytime! Avelyn gets to play with all of her friends and I get some grown-up conversation. win-win

(I got the cute name decal from GroopDealsz)

She stayed in her costume all day (except mealtime) and we went to a few of the neighbors houses to trick or treat. I told her she had to earn her keep and get Momma some candy!

After she went to bed, I hung out with my neighbors and passed out candy to the trick or treaters.

Me: 9 Months Post Baby

Here we are 9 months post baby! 9 months on and 9 months off they say...ha! I have lost a whopping 2 pounds since my 6 month update. I've been working out 4-5 days a week consistently and tracking calories with My Fitness Pal. I eat "clean" about 90% of the time. I think these last 8 pounds might stick around until I am finished breastfeeding.

I usually work out for an hour and do 30 mins on the stairmaster and 30 on the elliptical. I know I want to do some weight training but I want to lose more fat before I start. I logically know that it would be building muscle which would then burn more fat so I really should begin sooner than later.

I am not as worried about the number on the scale anymore. Something about being a busy mom makes you a little less worried about 5 pounds. It will come off..eventually!

9 Months

I'll save you from the redundant "I can't believe she is already __ months!" speech. There is no doubt about it though, she becomes less of little baby each day and becomes more of a small person with her own ideas about things. She is learning what she wants and is really showing her frustration when she doesn't get it.. i.e..throwing tantrums. I know it is just part of her development for her to be frustrated and upset so I just try to give her a second to calm down before I explain why I am doing what I'm doing. She may not understand much of what I am saying but since I'm not sure when she will really understand I figured I would start now.

Avelyn is one social little girl. She loves going to storytime and seeing all of her little friends. She hardly even notices me while we are there. She is really starting to play with the other babies instead of just watching.

She has no fear of anything. She tumbles headfirst into whatever she is doing and doesn't cry or get upset with all her little bumps she gets along the way. We had to really start baby-proofing the house after she fell down a couple stairs. That girl is so fast! There was just no way we could watch her closely enough. When we need a minute to ourselves for teeth-brushing or whatnot we have to put her in the pack-and-play. She is into everything.

I love seeing how curious she is about all these things. I love watching her figure out how things work. Taking her to new places and having new experiences is starting to be really fun!

She is still waking up twice a night to nurse. Usually around 1 am and then again at 5:30 or so. We have increased her solids and she eats three meals a day. For breakfast I usually give her a smoothie (either store bought from HEB or a small portion of my green smoothie). She loves peanut butter on bread or hummus on bread so that is usually what she has for lunch. Dinner is just what we eat cut into small pieces. She has two little teeth but I see two more on their way.

I'm kind of bummed our doctor doesn't do a 9 month well-check because I have no idea of her height and weight. She wears 12 month clothing only and even some of those pants are a little short. She isn't as filled out as much as some babies I see so I think her weight is probably still in the 40-50% and her height is still 60-70%. We won't see our dr until her 1 year appointment...which sadly is coming way too fast!

I gave up trying to take her monthly picture in the glider chair. We took these in our front yard and at the park down the street.

Everywhere we go people say, "What a happy baby!" She really is the happiest baby. She smiles at everyone and enjoys being out and about. We feel pretty good about taking her to restaurants now and despite making a big mess she usually behaves herself. The only time she isn't happy is when she is overly-tired and then her patience runs out (true for me as well).

She brings so much love and joy into our lives every day! I thank God for her every morning when I see that big ol' gummy smile greeting me from the crib. I am so grateful that I get to spend my days watching her grow and playing together.

Celebrating Fall!

Fall has officially arrived! Not that you would know that from yesterday's heat. Brandon and I both got sunburns. Yesterday we decided to go to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls.

Of course, since we were in Marble Falls we had to stop at Bluebonnet Cafe! I'm not usually a food picture-takerer so I didn't think to snap pics but man oh man was it delicious! Especially the chocolate cream pie I had for dessert.

We weren't sure what all to start with at the farm since they had so many choices. I know how much Avelyn loves animals so we decided to buy some goat food and feed them. I will never forget this experience. She started laughing like I had never heard big big belly laughs. She would've fallen over if I wasn't holding her!

At one point, there was a small circle of people around her just watching her laugh like that. It was precious.

What wasn't so cute was the mini-meltdown she had when we decided to finally move on from the goats. Oh boy, I have seen a hint of what we are in for later! But, since she is only 9 months old, we gave in and let her stay a bit longer.
(I think she actually looks like me in this picture)

We decided to roam around and pick pumpkins together.

It was so hot y'all! We paid for the pumpkins and cooled off with a farm-fresh strawberry popsicle.

We took the short walk to the other side of the farm for a hayride and fresh flower picking.

The hayride was so much more than I expected! There were probably 20-30 different scenes made out of scarecrows. Here are a few of our favorites!

This was my husband's favorite..shark fishing!

It was a perfect day! If you live in central Texas this is a must-see! Although, I do recommend going after the cold front comes through. ;)
