Bed Rest

Y'all, I am going crazy! There is nothing worse than for a nesting mama (with time running out) to be stuck in bed forced to do nothing but survey all of her half-finished projects!

I've learned a great deal about myself in the past few days of confinement forced relaxation. Number one would be how much I hate relaxing. Being still is just not my thing. I want to be cleaning and organizing and redecorating and adventuring. But no, I am here in bed just leaning to the left or right to reduce the level of numbness felt in my posterior.

I've also learned quite a bit about the people I have in my life. First off, my husband is quite the cook! He has been handling every part of day-to-day life that I usually do while taking care of a bedridden, hormonal wife on top of it. He has really impressed me! He also makes me laugh and has given me numerous pats on the back about how much he failed to appreciate everything a SAHM does in a day! I think he finally realized why we occasionally lock ourselves in closets just to be alone for a few minutes.

Also, we have the best people in our life. I've always heard that your 30's is when you have the best friends in your life and it's completely true! I've had so many people reaching out to encourage me, visit me, drop off food, bring care packages of essential oils, games, coloring books, reading material, a computer...you name it! It is honestly extremely humbling to see what amazing friends I have! You guys are gold!

So I will do this thing. I will sit in this bed...and lean left and right...and hope that these babies stay cooking for as long as possible!

Meanwhile, I'm sure to write many more uninspiring blog posts for your reading entertainment. Until next time...

Week 26 and 27 Twin Pregnancy Update!

I've hit the last week of my second trimester! Things are starting to get real around here.

Sadly, I've been put on complete bed rest until Tuesday at minimum (my next appt). I was having very consistent (every 2 mins), intense contractions that have caused a cervical change. In the past 10 days my cervix has gone from 3.8cm to 2.2cm and I've dilated to a 1. The docs have been pretty concerned and told me that I am making everyone very nervous. So bed rest it is.

I am trying to be positive about it but for a type-A, go-getter like myself, bed rest is the worst! I am only allowed out of bed to pee and shower. I can't clean or cook or play with my kids. Speaking of those girls, they've been amazing. They spend a few hours a day just cuddling up next to me. Someone else who has been amazing-  my husband! He had to take over the house all at once and he has done an amazing job. He cooks all the meals, does the shopping, cleaning, all of it! I have been in awe of him. Who knew he was such a good cook? My eating hasn't suffered one bit! haha

The only other news is that both babies are head down and doing well. Baby B was having some decels while I was contracting but he got a perfect score on his BPP (BioPhysical Profile) Ultrasound. I have 2 appts this week. The first is my Ob appt and glucose test (fingers crossed please!! Twin moms are 2x more likely to have GD) and the second is a growth ultrasound at the MFM. After those appts, we will have to decided if Brandon can go back to work or not. We really wanted to be able to use time off for after the babies are born but I understand that keeping them in there as long as possible is our number one priority right now.

While in the hospital, I received 2 steroid shots to help the babies lungs mature faster and if they stay put I should get another round in a month. My doctor said she would be very happy if we can keep them in there until at least 32 weeks. I trust that God has a perfect plan and that His timing will be in the best interest of those boys, but I really pray they can wait until 35/36 weeks!

Babies are the size of...Cauliflowers! Babies are 15 inches long and weigh almost 2 lbs each at this point!

How far along... 27 Weeks

Maternity Clothes? Yep!

Weight Gain:  +2 Lbs  (21.5 lbs total). I've only gained 1 lb a week for the past two weeks so I think weight gain may be slowing down. Space is getting limited in there!

Workouts: None. :( I think I will delete this from now on because it just reminds me of what I cannot do.

Symptoms: So other than my preterm labor symptoms (contractions, pelvic pressure, back pain) the only new symptoms are that my feet always feel super hot and I've been experiencing pretty bad rib pain. I have no doubt the pain will get worse the larger the babies get.

Stretch Marks? Not yet! I've started to use coconut oil on my belly because my skin was starting to feel itchy.

Sleep: It's getting uncomfortable to sleep now. I told my husband it feels like I'm sleeping on a bag of rocks- all those arms and legs and elbows! I fall asleep very early - around 9 pm but I wake up every night multiple times to pee and drink water. I also have pregnancy insomnia from 2:30-5 am every single day. Usually, the rib pain is what wakes me up. I've tried different things like drinking ice water (to nudge baby into moving out of there) and taking a bath. The bath does help sometimes.

Movement? Yes. Their movements are much stronger now! My whole belly bounces around. There is also a weird popping sound sometimes.

Genders and Twin Type: Identical Baby Boys!

What I Miss... not being on bed rest!

Food Cravings: Protein again! yayy! I've been really upping my protein again with shakes, chicken, greek yogurt!

Looking Forward To...My OB appt Tuesday to see if I have to stay on bed rest or not!

25 Weeks Twin Pregnancy Update

One more week down, 11 left to go! Man, this pregnancy is getting rough. I hate complaining and I hate whining so I don't really even want to go there but it's definitely getting harder and harder to just do simple things. By 11 am I am completely wiped out and ALL of me hurts. Since my husband has been home, I've been laying down and napping for a few hours every afternoon. Afterwards, I feel great and I can get through dinner, clean-up and bedtime routines. I think the key is really giving myself a break.

Babies are the size of...Cantaloupes! I had my monthly appt with the OB and my belly is measuring 27 weeks! Babies should weigh about 1 1/2 lbs each. :)

How far along... 25 Weeks

Maternity Clothes? Yep! I get a claustrophobic feeling when I'm pregnant- probably due to the lack of breathing room- so tight maternity clothes look cute but I rip them off as soon as I get home and wear baggy t-shirts and sweats the rest of the time.

Weight Gain:  +2 Lbs this week (19.6 lbs total). I guess I will be gaining 2 lbs a week from here on out..unless it slows down. Some women gain a bunch up front and then it slows down but I usually am slow to gain in the beginning but put it all on the last 3 months.

Workouts: None.

Symptoms: Soooo much pressure..and pain. It just hurts. Everything below my belly button aches and is super tender. My upper back is hurting. My feet and hands are tingly and go numb off and on. My legs and butt hurt even just laying down. I don't want to be a baby about it but I have no idea how I'm supposed to survive 11 more weeks of this especially since it will probably get worse.

Stretch Marks? Not yet!

Sleep: I am going to bed later now that hubby is home and we like to stay up and watch TV together. I usually am asleep by 11 and up by 5:30am. That afternoon nap is a MUST.

Movement? Sometimes they are going crazy and other times I wonder how long it's been since I felt them move last. They are most active at night when I'm laying down.

Genders and Twin Type: Mono-Di, Baby Boys!

What I Miss... not being in pain.

Food Cravings: I had intense sugar cravings this week. I usually have 1 or 2 sodas a year. I had 3 last week! Not to mention the candy. My glucose test is coming up in three weeks so I've been trying to reign it in and get back to my slower sugar diet.

Looking Forward To...Starting the nursery! I have to clear out all the baby girl stuff in there before there is room for me to put together cribs and such so hoping I can get started this week! I am itching like crazy to do it!

24 Weeks Twin Pregnancy Update - First Milestone

We did it! We made it to the first milestone in twin pregnancy! 24 weeks is the first week the twins are expected to survive outside the womb. Obviously, I plan to keep them cooking in there for much, much longer! It's a small step though and I like to celebrate -  so why not?!

Excuse my super-dark photo...I was too lazy to turn on the light.

Babies are the size of...Eggplants! I had an MFM appointment with growth scan done this week and each baby weighs 1 lb 5 oz! I was super excited to see that! I only get growth scans done on them every 4 weeks even though I go in every 2.

How far along... 24

Maternity Clothes? Yep! Leggings and sweats are my friend!

Weight Gain:  +2.7 Lbs this week (17.7 lbs total). I was a little shocked to see I've gained almost 3 lbs this week. I know the boys are entering into a major growth spurt though. Also, I've heard many twin moms say the weight gain slows down dramatically around 28 weeks because there is just no room in your stomach to eat. So for now, I'm totally fine with it coming on!

Workouts: None. Zip. Nada. Not even yoga. After my scare last week, I've been listening to my body. Keeping up with both the girls, cleaning the house and cooking takes enough out of me. If I stand up for too long I start getting BH after BH, so I try to rest between activities.

Symptoms: Nesting like crazy! Is that a legit "symptom"? My house has never been so clean or organized. haha Lots of BH contractions like I talked about. Mostly at night. I still feel tons of pressure down there but I'm hesitant to wear the belly band again after what happened last time.

Stretch Marks? Not yet! But my belly button pokes out at the top now. I've never had my belly button actually stick out in pregnancy so to see it do this when I have 12 weeks left is crazy!

Sleep: If no one wakes me up I sleep like a rock from 9-5am. Isla wakes up every day at 5 but I found if I give her some milk in a cup she goes back to sleep until 7! This gives me plenty of quiet time to read and journal and pray. What a difference that makes in my day!

Movement? They are very active boys, both of them! <is it just me or is every sentence in this blog punctuated with an exclamation mark?? my coffee is kicking in> You can see the movement from the outside now- especially on the right hand side. Those are Everett's legs over there. Cullen's kick are felt down low....right where Everett's head is. Brothers.

Genders and Twin Type: Mono-Di, Baby Boys!

What I Miss... nothing this week! Really! I am really trying to just enjoy every day. I know this is my last pregnancy and what a miracle to have 2 healthy babies in there! I  am in no rush for it to be over (and the real crazy to begin) so just soaking it all in.

Food Cravings: I had a craving for pizza the other day. I am not a big pizza fan normally but if I do have pizza I like to dip it in Ranch and drink Rootbeer. I didn't get the soda but I did enjoy the heck out of that pizza!

Looking Forward To...Starting the nursery! B got home two days ago and as soon as the weather is decent, I can spray paint the girls beds and be finished with their room. I saw an amazing deal with Krazy Coupon Lady where I was able to purchase 5 storage bins for the boys room for $25 (ToysRUs)! I am excited for them to come! The nursery colors are metallic, navy, gray and teal.
